The Cockalier is a cross between the Cocker Spaniel and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

A member of the Toy dog group, The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a very  happy dog that does well in either a city or country environment.

Cavaliers NEED human contact, and do not do well in kennels or alone.

They are indeed lap dogs and are always happiest in the company of their family.

Many owners call them "the ultimate lap dog".

The true purpose of this dog breed has always been that of a companion dog. Call them the perfect lap dog, if you like.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the number one toy dog in England and considered one of the largest toy dog breeds.

The Cavalier interacts well with children and is an active, graceful, well-balanced toy spaniel, very happy and free in action; fearless and sporting in character, yet at the same time gentle and affectionate.

It is this typical temperament, combined with true elegance and royal appearance which are of ultimate importance in this dog breed.

There are four recognized coat colors:
King Charles -
black and tan
Blenheim - red and white
Prince Charles - tricolor
Ruby - rich mahogany red

Natural appearance, with no trimming, sculpting, or artificial alteration is essential to breed type so grooming needs are very minimal.

The friendly Cocker Spaniel breed is well know for its hunting prowess, and for it's wonderful abilities as a family companion.

Cockers do require brushing every day (or every other day) to prevent their coat from developing mats.

Traditionally Cockers are tremendously affectionate and friendly toward people, dogs, and other pets.

They are good with children and other pets, though unneutered males may squabble.

The smallest member of the sporting group, this merry breed is very, very popular.

The Cocker is rarely seen hunting and now most often fulfills the special position of family pet or show dog.

They have a sturdy, muscular and compact balanced body, sloping topline, medium length coat, docked tail, long neck, broad deep muzzle, and show a keen inclination to work.

Ideal height of males at the withers is 15 inches and for a female 14 inches and 26-34 pounds in weight. Grooming takes a little work on a daily basis. Professional clipping should be taken into consideration at least once per month in order to help maintain a decent coat.
