The Dachshund are a member of the Hound Group

The breed's name is German and translates into badger dog.

They are a loyal dog and is bold and confident and alert.

They are naturally free from doggy odor and are one of the few breeds that do not smell.

They make a good companion whether you live in a small city apartment or the country.

They require minimal brushing to keep their coats healthy and in good condition. The longhaired and wirehaired versions will require extra grooming

There are 2 sizes; the standard (16-32 pounds) and the miniature (11 pounds and under).

They are a long lived breed and normally live 14 - 16 years
